Nevada Foster Care and Adoption
Adoption and Foster Care in Nevada
In Nevada most people are eligible to foster and/or adopt, regardless of marital status, age, race, religion, income, or sexual orientation. Adoptive parents may be stay-at-home parents or work outside the home, be with or without other children.
The main requirements for adoptive and foster parents are:
- must be legal resident
- have sufficient income to cover their financial needs
- be able to provide a loving, supportive environment for children
- must be over 21 (for adoption they must also be 10 years older than the child)
- can be married or single; if married, the spouse must also be a party to the adoption.
Single LGBT individuals may petition to adopt and a same-sex couple may jointly petition to adopt.
The state of Nevada requires that anyone wanting to complete an adoption must go through a licensed adoption agency, including attorneys.
Below you can find names, summaries, and contact information for agencies providing adoption and foster care services and helpful information.
