Adoption in Oregon

Applicants for adoptive parents in Oregon are considered regardless of race, ethnicity, gender, religion or sexual orientation. The basic requirements are:

  • You can be single, married, or domestic partners
  • You can live in a house or apartment, but must have room to house a child 
  • You can work inside or outside the home 
  • You must be at least 21 years of age or older 
  • You must have sufficient income to support your family 
  • You must be able to physically care for a child 
  • You must pass a child abuse and criminal background check

Foster Care in Oregon

Oregon welcomes and supports all families equally regardless of race, culture,  gender, religion or sexual orientation and ethnicity to become foster families. 

  • You can live in a house or apartment, but the home must have adequate space, including space for safe and appropriate sleeping arrangements, for each member of the household.
  • You can work inside or outside the home 
  • You must be at least 21 years of age or older (There are individual circumstances, requiring management approval which may allow a relative applicant between the ages of 18 and 20 to be certified as a relative foster parent.)
  • You must have sufficient income to support your family 
  • You must be able to physically care for a child 
  • You must pass a child abuse and criminal background check (Applicants with criminal history will be evaluated on a case by case basis. Consideration will be given in light of the overall context of the offense.)

Adoption Avenues is a non profit international adoption agency, licensed by the state of Oregon. Adoption Avenues Agency is committed to providing families with the most comprehensive education workshops and resource materials to better equip them to understand and deal with all the issues of the adoption process. Adoptions of Southern Oregon Inc.

Adoptions of Southern Oregon is a non-profit 503(c)(3) licensed adoption agency that provides pre- and post-adoption services to both birth parents and adoptive parents. Adoptions of Southern Oregon is affiliated with the Special Needs Adoption Coalition (SNAC) and as a SNAC agency is dedicated to recruiting, screening, preparing and counseling families who want to adopt children who are in state custody.

Bethany Christian Services

Bethany Christian Services is a global nonprofit organization that brings families together and keeps families together. Bethany is a full-service agency that is fully accredited.

The agency’s goal is to provide stability for foster children by providing stable loving families to care for them. Bethany Christian Services help families to be prepared to take foster care placement of children who have a dual plan of return home and adoption. Families willing to take on a legal risk will be supported in working towards reunification with birth families while at the same time making a long term commitment to a child or sibling group.

Boys & Girls Aid

Boys & Girls Aid serves children 0 to 23 through adoption providing Infant Adoption, Waiting Families, Foster Care Adoption, Oregon Heart Gallery, Post Adoption, as well as Professional Services, including Out-of-State services (Boys & Girls Aid is contracted by the Oregon Department of Human Services (DHS) to work with families from other states who have been chosen to go to an Oregon adoption committee).

Boys & Girls Aid foster care program serves boys and girls who are 10 years and older and offers support and guidance to foster parents.

Catholic charity in Oregon

Catholic Charities has been placing children in adoptive homes since 1902. Catholic Charities Pregnancy Support & Open Adoption Services is the oldest continuous program at Catholic Charities committed to providing support to all members of the adoption triad (adoptees, birth parents, and adoptive parents) who have worked with the agency in the past. Services available to those who were involved in past adoptions through Catholic Charities (Catholic Family Services, Catholic Services, Catholic Community Services) include Non-Identifying Information, Voluntary Adoption Registry, and Reunion Facilitation. Free Counseling, by licensed clinical social workers and/or counselors, is offered to any member of the adoption triad.

Christian Family Adoptions

Christian Family Adoptions is a private, nonprofit child placing agency with offices in Portland, Oregon and Vancouver, Washington.
